When you look around, you'll notice stories of groceries and grace in many places. Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to witness many families, individuals, and organizations "doing good” for others. Many stories have moved me and shaped my life, inspiring me to write about them and encourage others to "do good."
Following each PEOPLE GOTTA EAT book signing event, I made a commitment to support the Vision and Mission of Meme Cares by donating to a local organization that focuses on feeding the hungry and doing good for others.
Mission: Meme Cares champions Faith, Family, Friends, and Food—sharing stories of God’s goodness and grace through serving others with compassion and generosity to inspire a lasting commitment to doing good.
Vision: To inspire and guide readers through stories centered on Faith, Family, Friends, and Food, building a creative-writing legacy that supports personal growth and meaningful journeys.
Below are some stories of doing good — each supported by a Meme Cares donation in 2025.
Dauphin Way United Methodist Church and Meals -on -Wheels
Thank you to Caroline and my friends at Ballin’s LTD in Mobile for serving up love and support for People Gotta Eat at the book launch signing party. This was a heartwarming book launch event which touched my heart and impacted me and my family. Following the launch, Meme Cares began donating to organizations that serve others with heart and purpose. Dauphin Way’s Meals on Wheels ministry and my friends at Ballin’s serve with love and purpose. This donation was an opportunity to spread groceries, grace, and good in 2025.

As a member of Dauphin Way Methodist Church, it was an easy decision to donate to the Meals-on-Wheels ministry. My little sister Moo and her friend Lisa are volunteers. Mr. Gene and I subbed for them one Friday and loved visiting with Carolyn, Shannon, Paul, David, and others while waiting to pick up meals to deliver to four special people --Ronald, Bill, Sandy, and Beverly --who were so grateful for the meal. Dauphin Way's Meals-on-Wheels program began in the early 1970's and is known as one of the longest-standing and most impactful outreach ministries of the church. Meme Cares donated, and Mr. Gene and I look forward to volunteering in 2026! To learn more about Dauphin Way, and its ministries, visit dauphinwayumc.org.

Carpe Diem & Mobile Baykeeper
Following my November book signing event at Carpe Diem, I learned that Mobile Baykeeper benefits from the Carpe Diem Annual Santa Run. I knew Meme Cares would be donating to Mobile Baykeeper. My father, Jack Greer, was a founding member of Mobile Baykeeper in 1997 working alongside Casi Calloway and other concerned citizens. Spending summers at Belle Fontaine, we never had to worry about the Mobile Bay water. Shrimping, water skiing, crabbing, fishing - you name it! We’d “string out behind” heading down the wharf for an early morning swim before breakfast whenever Daddy said, “rise & shine!” Unfortunately, Mobile Bay is not the same today as it was back then. I am personally grateful to Alan and his team and all who participated in the Santa Run benefiting Mobile Baykeeper.

The Santa Run is an annual 2-mile fun-run, walk, bike ride, dog walking, fun-for-the-whole-family, holiday costume, charity event supporting Mobile Baykeeper. Famous Santa Run shirts are sold separately to help raise funds for Mobile Baykeeper! Drexell & Honeybees
"If you can't feed a hundred, feed one." - Mother Teresa
Following my book signing at Herrington’s the Florist in December, while deciding where I would make a donation to help feed others, the mission and action of Drexell & Honeybees (an Alabama donation only- restaurant), “to feed the need" was recommended to me by my son Jackson who lives in Brewton. Lisa and Freddie McMillan have been serving up love at Drexell & Honeybees since 2018. Having experienced hunger themselves, they didn’t want anyone else to suffer, so they founded Carlisa Inc. I made my first donation and signed up for their newsletter, too. I’m excited to learn more about their mission.
I encourage you to visit their website drexellandhoneybees.com and read their stories of groceries and grace. To donate on their website, and help feed the hungry, click on the Donate Heart .

Rooted & Grounded
Ann connected with Caroline to schedule my next book signing in Mobile at Rooted and Grounded located at 2754 Dauphin Street on January 17th from 10 to Noon. When the opportunity came up, and I learned more about the goals of Rooted and Grounded, Meme Cares donated to help further their mission of "creating a safe place for people to gather together and encounter the Living Father."
From their website - "We aren't just a coffee house with prayer, but a prayer ~ encounter house that sells coffee. When you leave Rooted and Grounded, our hope is for you “to know the knowledge - surpassing love of Christ, that you may be filled unto all of the fullness of God.”

Central Midtown and Love All Pantry
Love All Pantry is an inclusive community of volunteers and donors providing nutritious groceries to families experiencing food insecurity and hunger. My friend June told me about Central after hearing about my recently published book, PEOPLE GOTTA EAT Stories of Groceries and Grace. She has invited me to make time to discover all the good going on at Love All Pantry. “Love All,” is not an empty slogan. It expresses the mission to serve the community by providing food for the hungry and food insecure. I look forward to taking June up on her invitation to come meet the volunteers and experience Love All at Central Midtown.
You’re invited to learn more and to make a donation too! Visit centralmidtown.org or at their physical location at 1260 Dauphin St. Mobile, AL, 36604. --- (251) 432-0591 -- info@loveallpantry.org

Optimist Club of Perdido Bay
When Reverend Dan Pastor of Lillian Methodist Church and VP of Programs for the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay invited me back in September to be the guest speaker and have a book signing at the Club's breakfast on Saturday January 10th, I was humbled, teary eyed and so excited! I accepted knowing I had time to get my head around a meaningful presentation. At first, I thought I’d just wing it! Then my editor, daughter Greer, said Mom you might need a PowerPoint! Well... I followed her suggestion and created one to guide me!

Greer’s has supported the programs of the Optimist Club over the years. Through our partnership Gene and I met Dick and Betty Erwin, Rev Dan, and other members. Knowing firsthand the commitment of the Optimist volunteers, the decision to donate to the organization was an easy one.
Before sharing stories of groceries and grace from my book PEOPLE GOTTA EAT, and a little history of my family’s business - Autry Greer & Sons, we enjoyed a delicious Homestyle, Southern Breakfast - French toast, scrambled eggs, link and patty sausage, biscuits and two gravy choices! Mr. Gene had two helpings which is the ultimate compliment!
Following my presentation, I was happy to present our Meme Cares Donation to Club President Robin Newell in honor of Dick and Betty Erwin to be used to help further the Optimist Club's doing good programs and events.

The Optimist Club of Perdido Bay was established June 1, 1985, and has been serving the needs of young people in the area and striving to “Bring Out the Best in Youth, in our Communities, and in Ourselves” for 40 Years.
